Rethinking Evidence is a speculative research project that explores evidence around children's behaviour and the dynamic between their parents.
Leading this project, Hello Brave explored the question "How is the current evidence base on children's behaviour serving or not serving families living in Lambeth and Southwark?"
The aim of this project was to "help funders like Impact on Urban Health to better understand how they should and shouldn’t use evidence, and where there were other types they might invest in the future."
Through conducting interviews with families and stakeholders, Hello Brave gathered data and in turn with a storyteller, created three stories. Three fun and delightful illustrations were then created to visualise a major moment in each story, all to make the evidence gathered accessible to both children and adults.
I was brought in to bring together the written word and illustrations to further visualise the stories in a cohesive storybook.

Combining all the elements to create the storybook, one challenge I had, was to make 3 very different illustrated stories work together as one. I decided to focus on using block colours from each story that harmoniously worked well together for the overall look and feel of the storybook.
Another challenge I came across was how to further visualise the whole story. All I had was one main illustration and the story filled multiple pages.
From reading the stories, I wanted to capture the expressive element of the characters. With only one main illustration for each story and after multiply reads, I pinpointed parts of the story to create, using elements from the main illustrations. I had fun creating these supporting illustrations and finding inventive ways to create what I needed to increase the storybook vibe.
